Skier defies death with vertical run through mountain crevice (VIDEO)

A daredevil risked life and limb by skiing straight down a vertical crevice on an Alaskan mountain that was only about five feet wide in its narrowest opening.

Cody Townsend took a leap of faith, and some incredible skills with him, as he began his stunt looking straight down the narrow, almost 90-degree drop enclosed by jagged rocks.

Townsend told the Daily News that the chute was so narrow at spots, it left little room for error.

As you can see in the video below, the 30-year-old Californian takes a deep breath before his 30 second ride down the unnamed peak in the Tordrillo Mountains.

"Holy f***!" he yells as he exits the chute into daylight.

Townsend was honored Saturday at the 2014 Powder Awards in Salt Lake City for skiing what was deemed the most challenging line of the year.

He said that he's "never skied to win an award" it's just a passion he's had since childhood.
