Ex-Yankee Chad Curtis wants victims named in sex case: Report

Former New York Yankees outfielder Chad Curtis, deemed a “predator” by the Michigan judge who sent him to prison for molesting young females in 2013, wants to publicly identify three women who say he assaulted them when they were high school students.

Curtis, acting as his own attorney while in prison, filed a brief in Grand Rapids federal court earlier this month that said three of his four accusers, who were students at a Michigan high school at which he worked when he inappropriately touched them, should be named in court documents because they are all over 18 years old now, according to a report.

One of the four plaintiffs in the federal lawsuit filed against Curtis in April 2014 is identified by name, but the others are listed in court papers under pseudonyms.

Curtis, who is serving a seven-to-15-year sentence in Michigan for six sex charges, also claimed it would be unfair to allow the women to sue him anonymously.

“To allow plaintiffs to proceed with pseudonyms, to some degree, creates a verdict before the trial,” the 46-year-old Curtis wrote.

From the report:

Curtis cites case law that he claims warrant the identification, but attorneys for the women say Curtis only wants to "publicly shame and further traumatize the young women he sexually abused" and that they should be able to proceed anonymously. Case law that Curtis, 46, cited isn't analogous to facts in this case, attorneys said.

The females' attorneys are fighting back to protect their identities, according to the report.

Curtis played 10 years in the majors. The speedster with the All-American looks spent three years with the Yankees, helping them win World Series titles in 1998 and 1999. His career ended in 2001.
