Mount Pleasant High School Athletic Director Jim Conway said his team is angry that they might have to give up the two wins after senior player Javier Jones was revealed to be James Nash — a grown man who allegedly used false documents and transcripts to enroll at the school. After Nash's true identity was discovered, he was immediately removed from the school.
Why the college senior-aged man would want to play against 16, 17 and 18 year old teens is unknown but he was turned in by a tip from a concerned parent.
The Oiler players feel betrayed and angry that their season has been tarnished.
"They're as frustrated or if not more frustrated than the adults in this situation, which is good to see," said Conway. "I think the kids learned a valuable lesson."
Everyone is still trying to figure out how Nash slipped through the cracks.
"He just fit in with all the other high school kids, with the 16, 17 and 18 year-old kids that belonged there" said Conway. "There were really no red flags."
School officials said they are working with a liaison officer and turning documents over to prosecutors for possible charges against Nash.
It sounds like Nash is a lot better at forgery than he is at football. According to the other players, the guy in the No. 1 jersey wasn't that good.
